Meet Vy Pierce

I am a first generation Vietnamese American. My parents immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1975 and resettled in San Diego, CA where I was born and raised. My parents both worked blue collar jobs and I received reduced school meals and financial aid while I attended public schools from elementary through college. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and spent 12 years working in nonprofit organizations out of a desire to help and give back to my community.

I've lived in Atascadero since 2009. My three sons are enrolled in the Atascadero Unified School District. They are in 4th grade at San Gabriel Elementary School, 7th grade at Atascadero Middle School and 12th grade at Atascadero High School. In addition to these three schools, my children have attended Santa Rosa Academic Academy for speech therapy and Santa Margarita Elementary School for transitional kindergarten.

As a stay-at-home mom, I volunteer in my children’s classrooms and schools. I serve on the boards of San Gabriel PTA, Atascadero Middle School PTO, and Atascadero High School Band Boosters. I also have served on school site council and school district committees including LCAP and Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee during the pandemic. I am involved in nonprofit organizations like CAPS (Committee for Atascadero Public Schools) and the Atascadero Printery Foundation.

Kick-A-Thon Fundraiser

One of my proudest achievements is helping San Gabriel PTA's already successful Kick-A-Thon have two record-breaking years of fundraising and participation. I did so by looking at ways to include and allow all students to participate regardless of their family's financial ability. This fundraiser supports assemblies, field trips, art, and science activities which have been cut out of school budgets over the years.

Meet the Masters Art Program

The Meet The Masters program at San Gabriel Elementary School is made possible by PTA and volunteers. The children learn about famous artists, composition, and techniques before they get to create their own works of art. I helped set up the art workshops, implemented the PTA Reflections program in 2019-20, and promoted arts education in our school.

Classroom Volunteer

I love volunteering in the classroom and helping with math, reading, or special activities like Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) Day. I get valuable insight into what goes on at the school, in the classroom, and with the children. I can honestly say that the education being provided is really rich and well-rounded.
